SEW SISTAs UNITE!!!
We have another opportunity to come together with quilting projects.. After Bread-Of-Life on Saturday, March 16, we will have another stitch session starting at 10AM in the AWANA room. This class will be - HALF-SQUARE-TRIANGLES or HSTs.
The goal of this class will be to teach multiple techniques for creating half square triangles from different sizes of fabrics. The students will be given a materials list and asked to bring their own thread and fabric for their quilt. The class will focus on creating 80 blocks, all half square triangles, and assembling them into a quilt top measuring at 30”x40” if using charm packs (5” squares) and up to 77”x96” if using layer cakes (10” squares). This quilt top will not include the borders or binding. This is only to create the HST design. (See attached example designs using 80 squares)
Since all students will bring their own materials, there will be no charge except for lunch that will be provided for $7.
I know many of you are excited to find your fabric, so let me give you the following “rule of quilt size”. If you want to purchase pre-cuts, 5” squares or 10” squares, here’s what they can make…
1 charm – Baby Quilt
2 – Crib Size
3 – Lap Quilt
5 – Twin Size
8 – Queen Size
Layer Cake = 42 10” Squares
1 – Twin
2 – Queen
After adding borders to your HST top, you could potentially have a very large quilt so think before you buy. For every charm pack or layer cake that you bring, you will need an equal amount of background fabric. 1 charm pack of print plus 1 charm pack of background (creates 84 HSTs). That will make 30”x40”ish. You can also choose to buy fabric by the yard for your background fabric, I would suggest get 1 yard of background per charm pack of print. I prefer buying 1 print layer cake plus 1 background layer cake or 3.25 yards of background. This will give you plenty of fabric and a large quilt.
You will need your own cutting board, rotary blade cutter, and clear measuring ruler that displays a 45 degree line.
For those of you who want to bring your own project, come sew along and do your thing. I’ll teach those that want to look over my shoulder.
We will have a sign up for this class due to the set up of the room. We will need to set up tables to prepare for our sew-along.
If you have specific questions, call or message me. I hope this gets you started.
Love you gals,
Mindy
